I Tested the Best Cluely Alternatives for Interviews (2026)
I was preparing for Citadel's CoderPad first round: 45 minutes, one coding problem, and a behavioral segment. I wanted real-time help with both parts.
Cluely looked like a fit. It listens to the call, answers questions about the screen or conversation with one shortcut, takes files and a system prompt, and offers an invisibility mode, according to its site.
I decided to look for alternatives after testing it in a Zoom full-screen share and reading reports from users. Here is why.
First, Cluely's answers appear in an overlay on the computer I would share, and its invisibility mode did not hide them. With that mode on, the panel still showed on the receiving computer in my Zoom full-screen share test.
Second, Cluely answers a detected question only after a click or a Tab press. A transcription error could also drop a condition the interviewer adds, and Trustpilot users reported such errors.
Third, Cluely does not help me practice. It briefs me before a call and takes notes during it, but its docs describe no practice interviews.
Finally, Cluely is built as a meeting assistant whose coding help is a Smart Mode toggle, with no coding workflow in its docs.
The table below compares four alternatives by the need each one fits best.
Best Cluely Alternatives at a Glance
How I Compared These Tools
I tested these tools hands-on in realistic interview setups. Those setups included screen sharing in Zoom and other meeting apps, plus spoken and coding questions.
I also read each product's official product and pricing pages, plus many third-party reviews and reports from users. Those included Trustpilot, Reddit, and a Business Insider test. Then I weighed each tool against what a candidate needs in the round.
InterviewFox for Answers on a Separate Phone
InterviewFox is an AI interview assistant whose answers, in Dual-device mode, never appear on the interview computer's screen. Screen sharing and screen recording therefore cannot capture them.
Cluely takes the opposite approach. Its Live Insights card is an overlay on the same computer, with an invisibility mode meant to hide it. That mode has listed exceptions as of September 2025, including Zoom full-screen sharing on some devices. Hiding during screen share is sold separately, at $149.99/month.
Cluely's panel appeared on the receiving computer in my Zoom full-screen share, even with invisibility mode on.
InterviewFox moves the answers off that screen. Its Dual-device mode uses one device for the interview and another for InterviewFox. The desktop client only sends audio and screenshots and can be hidden. The phone holds the screenshots and the answer panel. My test also showed "AI Answer" and "Analyze" buttons below each screenshot.
InterviewFox keeps answers off the shared screen, while the others here showed help on the interview computer in my tests.
The feature also costs less. InterviewFox Pro includes Dual-device mode at $49/month, about a third of Cluely's $149.99 hiding tier.
Keeping the answers off the shared screen held up when I tested it in a Zoom full-screen share. I hid the client window before sharing, and the receiving laptop showed only the desktop. The screenshots and the answer panel appeared on my phone.
The catch is the second device. Every answer appears on the phone, so I read from it during the round and keep it within reach.
InterviewFox also covers two other needs. Full-Screen Mode starts it from the phone, with no desktop download, when an interview comes up without warning. The Prep Agent builds résumé and target-role context over WhatsApp or SMS for live answers.
InterviewFox is free to try. Every free user gets unlimited 10-minute sessions, with no credit card required. Paid one-time Credits start at $58 for 30,000 Credits, about 500 minutes, billed per second of active assistance.
Purchased Credits do not expire, while free or promotional Credits may have their own expiration date. Pro costs $49/month, $39/month billed quarterly, or $29/month billed annually. Elite costs $99/month, $79/month quarterly, or $59/month annually.
Choose it if screen sharing makes you anxious that your answers will show.
Skip it if you cannot read answers from a second device during the round.
Parakeet AI for Questions Spread Across Sentences
Parakeet AI answers a detected question without waiting for me. Its Auto Answer drafts a reply as soon as it detects a question in the audio. Cluely lists the questions it detects and waits for a click or a Tab press. An early Cluely version summarized a multi-part question instead of answering it in Business Insider's April 2025 test.
That matters most when an interviewer spreads one question across several sentences. Parakeet starts a draft once the question is detected. With Cluely, I would first pick the right item from its list of detected questions or press Tab.
Both tools transcribe the call and listen in one language per session. For prompts on the screen, Parakeet offers a Screenshot button, and Cluely uses a Cmd+Shift+Enter shortcut.
When I tested it, Parakeet assembled a question I spoke across several utterances into one complete question. It handled an on-screen coding prompt the same way. Below, it restates the Design Twitter prompt as one complete question, then answers with key steps and C++ code.

Question capture depends on fast transcription, and Trustpilot users praise its fast voice-to-text on a fast connection.

Cost climbs once I need more than one round. One credit covers only two 30-minute calls, so repeated sessions push toward the Unlimited plan.
Parakeet sign-up is free with no credit card, and the first mock is free. Its pricing page also shows a 10-minute free session in the product preview. Credits cost $38 for one or $59 for three, and half a credit covers one 30-minute call. Unlimited costs $149.90/month, or $49.99/month billed yearly.
Choose it if your interviewer asks long, multi-part questions and you want pay-per-session credits.
Skip it if your round runs in HackerRank or CoderPad. It did not work normally in HackerRank or CoderPad when I tested it in August 2026.
Final Round AI for Prep and Live Help in One Goal
Final Round AI covers the full interview chain in one product. Preparation before the interview, live help during it, and a debrief after it all run around one saved Goal.
Its Prepare, Perform, Review loop starts with that Goal, where I save the role, job description, résumé, notes, and round. Practice comes before the call, and every session, note, and debrief attaches back to the Goal. The debrief then feeds the next round.
Live answers come in first person, with no chat box or button to press, by Final Round's description.
Cluely covers less of that chain. Before a call, it briefs me on who I am meeting. It answers on a click or Tab and keeps meeting notes and a recap. Its docs describe no practice interviews.
Final Round's practice side holds up in user feedback. Trustpilot users praise its mock interviews and the detailed report they give afterwards.

Price is what holds it back. Live help costs $150 month to month, and monthly plans are non-refundable. Quarterly billing at $83.33/month also avoids the $150 rate, and annual billing brings it to $25/month.
Live help also has no free trial, and the free plan covers preparation only. First quarterly or yearly purchases have a 72-hour money-back window for limited usage.
Choose it if you want prep, live help, and debriefs in one product and can pay annually.
Skip it if you need month-to-month live help without paying $150.
Interview Coder for Coding Rounds
Interview Coder is built for coding.
One shortcut screenshots the problem and returns solution code with step-by-step reasoning and Big-O analysis. Another screenshot reworks the solution when an edge case fails. Cluely's coding help, by contrast, is a Smart Mode toggle inside a meeting assistant.
Both tools start from a screenshot, but Interview Coder documents what comes back. Its coding-interview workflow returns solutions in Python, Java, JavaScript, C++, or Go, with complexity analysis. Cluely's Get Answer shortcut covers coding problems on the screen, but its docs list no languages or complexity output.
The bigger gap is iteration. Another screenshot makes Interview Coder rework the last solution, and Cluely's docs describe no such loop. Interview Coder also stays focused on interviews, while Cluely covers meetings, notes, and sales calls too.
Its coding answers were good in my use. It recognized and answered questions in about 3 to 4 seconds.
The price is high. AI features cost $299/month with 1,000 usage credits, or $799 one-time for Lifetime Pro. The app itself is a free download, but AI features need a subscription.
Every purchase is final under its no-refund policy.
Choose it if your round is a coding interview and coding help is all you need.
Skip it if you also need behavioral help or your round runs in HackerRank or CoderPad. Its behavioral answers were generic in my use. It did not work normally in HackerRank or CoderPad when I tested it in August 2026.
Which Cluely Alternative Should You Choose?
No single tool wins every round, so match the choice to what your round needs most.
- Choose InterviewFox if screen sharing makes you anxious that your answers will show.
- Choose Final Round AI if you want preparation, live help, and post-interview debriefs in one product and can pay annually.
- Choose Parakeet AI if your interviewer asks long questions in several parts.
- Choose Interview Coder for a coding round that does not run in CoderPad or HackerRank. Skip it if you also need behavioral help or a refund option.
Cluely is still reasonable if you want a general meeting assistant with notes and AI answers outside interviews. It also has the lowest paid plan here, Pro at $19.99/month, plus a free Starter plan.
Staying works best when you will not share the screen Cluely runs on. Its panel reached the receiving computer in my test, even with invisibility mode on.
FAQ
Is Cluely undetectable?
No, not reliably. Cluely's panel appeared on the receiving computer during my Zoom full-screen share, even with invisibility mode on.
Its own docs list exceptions as of September 2025. On Windows 10, Windows 11 Home, and Apple devices from before 2020, invisibility does not apply in Teams. The same holds for full-screen shares in Zoom and Google Meet. Cluely also stays visible in Task Bar and Activity Monitor. I did not test other platforms.
What is the open source alternative to Cluely?
Cluely itself is not open source. Its GitHub organization publishes app releases and tools, not the desktop app's code.
The projects that come up under that name differ. OpenCluely is open source and needs a Gemini API key. Pluely started open but moved to closed-source binaries from version 1. Natively calls itself source-available, not open source, and is free for personal use with your own model keys. I did not test any of these tools.
What are some free apps similar to Cluely?
Two of these alternatives let you try live help free. InterviewFox gives free users unlimited 10-minute sessions with no credit card. Parakeet AI's pricing page shows a 10-minute free session, and its first mock is free.
Final Round AI's free plan covers preparation only, with no free trial of live help. Interview Coder's free download includes no AI features. Cluely itself has a free Starter plan with limited AI responses. These terms come from each official site in October 2026.
Which is better, Parakeet AI or Cluely?
Neither wins every round. Parakeet AI suits long, multi-part questions, because Auto Answer drafts a reply once it detects a question. Cluely waits for a click or a Tab press.
Parakeet assembled a multi-sentence question correctly when I tested it. Cluely costs less, with Pro at $19.99/month against $149.90/month for Parakeet Unlimited. Parakeet credits cost $38 for one or $59 for three. Cluely also works as a general meeting assistant.
Does Cluely still work?
Yes, it is still sold and running as of October 2026. It works as a meeting assistant that listens to the call, transcribes it, and answers on a click or Tab. It also keeps meeting notes and recaps.
Its plans are a free Starter with limited AI responses and Pro at $19.99/month. Pro + Undetectability costs $149.99/month. Pro is the lowest paid plan in this comparison.
How good is Cluely?
Cluely is good as a general meeting assistant and weaker for the interview needs on this page. Its strengths are meeting notes and recaps, a free Starter, and the lowest paid plan here, at $19.99/month.
For interviews, it answers questions only after a click or Tab, and users reported transcription errors. Its coding help is a Smart Mode toggle, with no dedicated coding workflow in its docs. An early version also invented background details in Business Insider's April 2025 test.
Can I use ChatGPT for an interview?
Not as a live interview assistant on its own. ChatGPT's meeting features give notes or summaries after the call. Record runs in the macOS app on Plus and higher plans. Meetings is a macOS beta for Pro and Business.
During a call, you must capture each question yourself with a screenshot or the Chat Bar and send it. ChatGPT Voice's Live option does not support screen sharing. If it runs on the interview computer, its window sits on that screen. I did not test ChatGPT for this.
